For the last 5 years, Camatta Lempens has taken part in the Walk for Justice. Walk for Justice is an annual charity event hosted by JusticeNet on National Pro Bono Day. The walk itself celebrates the massive impact that the pro bono legal sector has on thousands of South Australians facing disadvantage.
Donations raised from the Walk for Justice provide 27% of JusticeNet SA’s funding and goes towards helping the legal system become more accessible to vulnerable South Australians – in doing so, supporting people experiencing poverty and homelessness, as well as refugees, and people representing themselves in court. JusticeNet further provides a system by which law firms are able to fulfil their pro bono work, empowering lawyers to give back to the community.
With 12 people participating in the walk from Camatta Lempens, we were able to raise an astounding $5,979 from 83 generous donors – smashing our goal of $3,000. Fundraising efforts from Tim Bourne OAM and Rebekah Smith made significant impacts with them raising $2,212 and $1,392 respectively. Tim was further awarded a voucher for a Barossa Valley helicopter tour for being one of the first participants to raise $1,000. Tim generously donated this voucher to Catherine House.

Overall, the 2024 walk was an enormous success with 517 total walkers, raising a record-breaking $160,077. These funds will go towards continuing the incredible work that JusticeNet is tirelessly providing to vulnerable South Australians – providing access to the legal system in a manner that has not previously been afforded to a wide proportion of our community.
These important contributions to the community will allow access to justice to become more than a hope, but rather a right – no matter the circumstances.
